Alfonzo Sims, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on July 26, 2023, at the age of 84 in Aurora, Ohio. Born on December 31, 1938, in Birmingham, Alabama, Alfonzo's life was a testament to love, dedication, and a passion for life.
Alfonzo was born to his proud parents, the late James Samuel Sims and Mattie L. Crowe. He grew up alongside his siblings, Dorothy J. Adams and the late James S. Sims, David E. Sims, Robert Sims, Elenora Sims, Isabell Sims-Davis, and Juretha Sims-Williams. Alfonzo's family was a source of strength and joy throughout his life, and he cherished the bonds they shared.
In his early years, Alfonzo proudly served in the U.S. Marines, demonstrating his commitment to serving his country with honor and integrity. After his service, he embarked on a journey that would lead him to become a loving husband to Barbara Hines-Sims. Together, they shared a life filled with love and devotion until her passing.
As a father, Alfonzo was a guiding light to his three children: Alfonzo Jr. (Deceased), Michael C., and Anthony D. Sims (Lezlee Slow-Sims). He instilled in them values of kindness, hard work, and perseverance. His love and support were unwavering, and he took great pride in witnessing his children grow into successful and compassionate adults.
Alfonzo's role as a grandfather brought immense joy to his life. He adored his grandchildren Marcus, Anthony, Nicole, LaChell, Alena, Courtney, Harlan, Al'leshia, Aljuwon (Deceased), and Alliyah. They were the apple of his eye, and he delighted in every moment spent with them, sharing stories and wisdom that will remain in their hearts forever.
Throughout his life, Alfonzo had diverse interests and passions. An avid sports fanatic, he found great pleasure in playing center field on GM's Local #1005 Baseball Team, showcasing his athletic prowess and team spirit. Cars held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in the engineering marvels of the automotive world. Additionally, his affection for Dobermans reflected his nurturing and protective nature.
Alfonzo Sims leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, who were touched by his warm smile, sense of humor, and caring nature. He was a loving uncle and great uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, who will always cherish the memories they shared with him.

Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave. Cleveland, OH 44111, as well as Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. until time of Homegoing Service at 11:00 a.m., at Slone & Co. Life Celebration Center 3556 W. 130th St. Cleveland, OH 44111. Interment Lakeview Cemetery.
