Altagracia Martinez passed away peacefully in the presence of God on Sunday, May 31st, 2020. She was born November 9th 1928 in Santo Domingo, the eldest of 4 sisters. She grew up and began her family in Santo Domingo, and later immigrated to Brooklyn in February 1973.
Altagracia, known lovingly as Mama or Mama Tata, was the matriarch and caretaker of a large and beautiful family. She prayed often and loved to hold babies.
She is preceded in death by her husband Eduardo Peguero Aguiar, her sons José Martinez and Luis Martinez, and her grandson Danilo Fortunado. Altagracia is survived by her children Olga Polanco, Máximo Martinez, Luz Peguero, Hortencia Martinez, Adriana Martinez, and Tomasa Martinez, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as many close family members and friends in the Dominican Republic— all of whom she loved and touched deeply.
Altagracia loved unconditionally, and will be forever remembered for her kindness and strength, which she imparted on each and all she cared for. She will live on in the memory and lives of all the people she brought into this world.

Altagracia Martínez falleció pacíficamente en presencia de Dios el domingo 31 de mayo de 2020. Nació el 9 de noviembre de 1928 en Santo Domingo, la mayor de 4 hermanas. Ella creció y comenzó su familia en Santo Domingo, y luego emigró a Brooklyn en febrero de 1973.
Altagracia, conocida amorosamente como Mama o Mama Tata, era la patria a y la cuidadora de una familia grande y hermosa. Rezaba con frecuencia y le encantaba abrazar a los bebés.
Le precedieron en la muerte su esposo Eduardo Peguero Aguiar, sus hijos José Martínez y Luis Martínez, y su nieto Danilo Fortunado. A Altagracia le sobreviven sus hijos Olga Polanco, Máximo Martínez, Luz Peguero, Hortencia Martínez, Adriana Martínez y Tomasa Martínez, muchos nietos, bisnietos y tataranietos, así como muchos familiares cercanos y amigos en el República Dominicana: a todos los que amaba y tocaba profundamente.
Altagracia amaba incondicionalmente y será recordada por siempre por su amabilidad y fuerza, que impartió a todos y cada uno de los que le importaban. Vivirá en la memoria y en la vida de todas las personas que trajo a este mundo.
