Anne E McCluer-Ritly

Anne E. McCluer- Ritly, 84, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 21, 2019 at her home in Wellington, OH after a short battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Anne was born May 13, 1935 in Warren, OH, the daughter of the late Frank D. and Julia Curtis McCluer.

She was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Warren. After graduation, Anne joined the Sister’s of Notre Dame, Chardon and became Sister Mary Curtis. In the Convent, Anne continued her education at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana where she earned her Master of Science degree in 1968. She was a teacher for over 30 years. As a lay person she taught Work Study in the Cleveland Public Schools where she touched many students’ lives. Prior to that, while still in the Convent, she taught at various schools in the Cleveland area.

A very giving and selfless person, Anne is well known for her love of animals and took great interest and special care in preserving the lives of homeless cats and dogs, having sheltered many adoptable and unadoptable pets over the years. Her sense of humor and infectious smile will be missed by many. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cleveland.

She is survived by her brothers Frank D. McCluer III (Elaine Kuntz) of Vail, CO and George F. McCluer (Cecelia) of Warren, OH; nephews Micah McCluer (Kathleen), Frank D. McCluer IV; nieces Margret Makowski (Joe), Meghan Hiland; sister in law Anita McCluer; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Charles “Curt” McCluer, and her loving husband Endre Ritly, whom she married June 29, 1987.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at St. Patrick’s Church, 3602 Bridge Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113 at 11:00 a.m. where family will receive friends one hour prior to mass.
