Cherita Lynne Darden

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cherita Lynne Darden, lovingly known as Rita, on February 1, 2025, at the age of 50. Born on July 11, 1974, in Cleveland, Ohio, Rita was known for her vibrant personality, infectious laughter, and generous spirit. 

She was the cherished daughter of Jacqueline McGinnis and the late William F. Darden and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Joel McGinnis, whom she affectionately called her “Black Santa.” Rita was the devoted mother of Angel Murell and her beloved twins, with whom she shared a unique bond. 

Rita was the beloved sister of Jacqueline Y. Jackson, Peaches L. Darden Copeland, and William F. Darden McGinnis (Margie). She also shared a close connection with her bonus siblings, Christina McGinnis and JoJo McWhorter. She held a special place in her heart for her Auntie Carolyn, who was like a second mom, and her favorite uncles, Toronto Davis (Nelli) and Dewayne Darden (Kim). 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Peaches & Frank Darden, and Henry Davis, Jr. She is survived by her grandmother, Rose Davis. 

She leaves behind a host of aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly. Rita’s vibrant spirit, contagious laughter, and generous heart touched many lives. Her memory will live on through the countless people she inspired and the love she shared so freely.
