Dennis Fernando Mitchell, age 70, passed away on December 27, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived. Born on February 12, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Mary Cross and stepfather, Robert Cross, Dennis touched the lives of many with his warmth and kindness.
A devoted husband, Dennis was the beloved spouse of Marilyn Mitchell, sharing a life filled with shared joys and unwavering companionship. As a loving father, he leaves behind cherished memories for his children Michelle Roberson, Tamisha Robinson, and Alphonso Robinson. His role as a grandfather brought immeasurable joy, and he will forever be remembered by his grandchildren Davione Barrow, Shantae Robinson, Rayonna Hudson, and Jazier Robinson.
Dennis was more than a brother; he was a dear sibling to Jimmie Bryant, and his familial connections extended to his cousins Derrick Russel and Terrina William. The ties of family were strengthened through his aunts, Ella Gaston and Felicia Townsend, who held special places in his heart.
In addition to his immediate family, Dennis was a brother-in-law to Bernice Herrer, Diana Alexis, Terry Cooper, John Robinson, and Michael Brown. His bonds of friendship ran deep with Adam Troy Johnson, and he shared a special connection with Michael. His mother's caregiver, Valerie, became a close and cherished companion, a testament to the depth of his relationships.
Dennis's journey through life was marked by academic excellence, having graduated from Westinghouse High School. In 1969, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the Navy with dedication and honor. Released in 1971, Dennis went on to embrace various professions, earning him the nickname "mystery man" for his diverse skills. From the post office to welding, the VA Hospital, and beyond, Dennis proved to be a jack of all trades.
An avid lover of family, Dennis was renowned for his commitment to spending quality time with his grandchildren. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, enjoying travel, sports, jazz, and good company. His charismatic personality and zest for life endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are welcome on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 1 p.m. until time of Homegoing Service at 2 p.m., at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave. Cleveland, OH 44111. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Rd. Seville, OH 44273. (Please meet at cemetery by 12:00 p.m.)
