Herminio J. Nieves Baez

Herminio J. Nieves Baez, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 10, 1949, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to his loving parents, the late Herminio Nieves and the late Carmen Baez.

Beloved husband of Edna M. Rivera. Devoted father of Diana Nieves (Jose Rios), Luis I. Nieves, Luis A. Rivera, Marie Tere Rivera (Orlando Rodriguez) and Marisellie Rivera (Kevin Jones). Cherished grandfather of Yina Rossy Nieves (Emmanuelle Alvarez), Anniedalyz Burgos (Israel Burgos), Rafael Rossy Nieves, Chrystal Rivera (Jeremias Rodriguez), Paola Rodriguez Rossy (Jeremy Vasquez), Genesis Rodriguez, Sebastian Rivera, Darshan Rodriguez, Luis A. Smith Rivera, Tristan Rivera Jones and Valentino Rossy Nieves. Treasured great-grandfather of Cattleya, Calym, Xayden, Xeilani, Xamarie, Johanniel, Elisael and Elizyan. Dear twin brother of Julio Herminio Nieves Baez who preceded him in death, and Lyllian Nieves Baez. Loving uncle of Julio and Javier. Beloved nephew of Julia Nieves and Angel Nieves.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and rhythm. A gifted mechanic, he spent many years under the hood of cars, always with grease on his hands and a smile on his face, doing what he loved. Beyond his skill and love of engines, he was best known for the rhythm in his soul and his famous hat. He had a deep love for salsa, especially salsa gorda and whether he was singing along, dancing with joy, or playing the congas and guiro, music was the heartbeat of his life. A jokester at heart, he had a special way of making everyone laugh with his infectious smile. His grandchildren were his pride and joy; he was endlessly devoted, always present, and full of love. He gave each of them a nickname, said with affection and humor, that will now echo in their hearts forever. To know him was to love him. He was deeply loved by all who knew him and will be forever missed.

Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Slone & Co. Life Celebration Center 3556 W. 130th St. Cleveland, OH 44111. A Memorial service for family and friends will be held in Bayamon, Puerto Rico at a later date.
