James “Jim” L. Maxfield, age 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2019 at his home in Lakewood, OH. Jim, better known as “Smax,” put up an impressive fight throughout his twelve year battle against Alzheimer’s. Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Karen, and their children, Drew (Jessica), Derek, Danny and Lindsay, who cared for him with immense love and grace. Jim will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Leah, Cailyn, Anthony, Maeve and Dominic who were always by his side, his sisters, Cheryl (Gene) Butera, Nancy Stacy, his brother Bill (Mary Anne) Maxfield, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Jim was preceded in death by both his parents, Karyl (nee Fisher) and Jack Maxfield, and brother-in-law, Jim Stacy.
Jim was an avid athlete—there wasn’t a sport he didn’t play, there wasn’t a game he didn’t watch. Jim’s support went well beyond his beloved Cleveland teams, you could always find him on the sidelines cheering for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Jim will be joining Heaven’s softball team and will be sliding in head first.
