Juanita Sowell, age 75, passed away on August 6, 2024. She was born on January 19, 1949, in Birmingham, Alabama, to her loving parents, the late John L. Sowell Sr. and Josephine Bush. Juanita was the beloved wife of the late Herbert Glover and the devoted mother of Thomas Sowell (Debra) and the late Marquis Sowell. She was a cherished sister to Larry Sowell (Erica), Veniva, and she is now reunited with her deceased siblings, Thomas, Alvin, Yohan Yisreal, Tyrone, and Sheila. Juanita was a treasured aunt to Suyin "Sweetpea" Foster, Larry Sowell Jr., Andrea Robinson, Tryreno, and Vonetta. She is also survived by her cousin, Terena Powell, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
Juanita moved to Cleveland in the early 1950s, where she accepted Yahweh into her life as a young girl and was baptized with the House of God on October 7, 1979. She was an ordained evangelist, finding great joy in the servitude of others. Evangelist Sowell dedicated her life to visiting prisons, hospitals, and praying for anyone she encountered on the streets.
She was a loving family member who valued family deeply. Known for her generosity, she gave freely to everyone she met. Juanita also had a passion for shopping and enjoyed everything related to fashion, which brought her much joy throughout her life.
Family and friends are welcome on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 11 a.m. until time of Homegoing Service at 1 p.m., at Slone & Co. Life Celebration Center 3556 W. 130th St. Cleveland, OH 44111. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
