Lawrence (Eb) Battle Sr., was born on August 21, 1931 in Gadsden, Alabama to the Irwin and Elizabeth
Battle. He departed this life on August 19, 2020. He was the sixth oldest of nine kids. Lawrence Sr. was
preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Ruby Black Battle and Annie Caldwell and three brothers
Earnest (Bubba), Rueben and Louis (Louie) Battle.
Lawrence Sr. attended Carver High School in Gadsden, Alabama. While in Gadsden he met his childhood friend at a very early age, Ruth Lipscomb, who he would later marry on December 11, 1953. Shortly after high school, Lawrence Sr., moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1948 where he would enlist in the U.S. Army and would go on to fight in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he took a job at Ford Motors from where he would retire. After retiring, he made the garage his workshop where he would tinker around with lawn mowers, make barbecue grills for the community and snow blowers. He also had a huge love for motorcycles, trucks, and fishing.
Lawrence Sr. leaves to celebrate his life, his wife of sixty-six years Ruth, his children Sherry (Derrick), Stanley
(Stephanie), Lawrence, Jr., and Philip; two living sisters Mildred and Earlene; his fourteen grandchildren,
sixteen great-grandchildren, 1 great, great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
