Marjorie Slone Gibson

Marjorie Slone Gibson, age 93, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away on August 11, 2024. Born on August 22, 1930, in Raven, Kentucky, Marjorie relocated to the LaGrange/Elyria area in 1953, where she became a cherished member of the community.

Marjorie was a dedicated member of the Pleasant View Old Regular Baptist Church in Litchfield, serving faithfully since 1969. Her love for writing led her to work as a columnist for the Mountain Eagle Paper in Whitesburg, Kentucky. She also worked at Bono's Pizza in LaGrange, Ohio, where she assisted her son, the owner.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Belinda Slone Elliott of Elyria, Ohio; six stepchildren: Brenda & Junior Ruggles of Ironton, Gerald & Val Gibson of Willard, Claude & Sonja Gibson of Willard, Joseph & Sandy Gibson of Willard, Mark & Rita Gibson of Willard, and Donel & Diana Gibson II of Norwalk. She was a loving grandmother to three grandchildren: Kimberly Slone of Wasila, Alaska, Kelley Haddock of Colorado Springs, and Chad E. Elliott (Lisa) of LaGrange, Ohio; great grandchildren Tyler and Ashley Elliott; as well as many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonas Slone and Nora E. Boleyn; her first husband of 53 years, Omer Slone, who passed in 1999; her second husband of 17 years, Donel Gibson, who passed in 2019; her son, Douglas E. Slone of New Port Richey, Florida; her sisters, Lula Dulcie and Ruth Blackburn; and her brothers, stillborn male twins, 3-year-old Raymond, and Jonas "Lawrence" Slone, Jr. 

Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Pleasant View Old Regular Baptist Church 3589 Beat Rd. Litchfield, OH 44253, where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. Interment River Road Cemetery. A dinner at the church will be held following the graveside service.
