Mr. Duane Thornhill, Sr., was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 22, 1950 and transitioned on Saturday, September 18, 2021 after seven years of dealing with Multiple Myeloma. As with everything, Mr. Thornhill fought and managed his illness with strength, perseverance, and peace while spending time with his loved ones as often as he could. In his final moments, he was at peace with family surrounding him and with Islam in his heart.
Mr. Thornhill is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mrs. Marlene Thornhill; three amazing children: Sadiq Abdul-Aleem/Duane Thornhill II (Ashley), Dion Lamont Thornhill (Tonnia), and Stephenie Evonne Thornhill; and six beautiful grandchildren: David Clarke, Maceo Thornhill, Zia Thornhill, Sensir Thornhill, Cameron Thornhill and one arriving soon; five caring siblings: Michael Robinson, Kevin Robinson (Terri), Andre Robinson, Paula Robinson, and Frankie Robinson; along with a host of family and friends. Mr. Thornhill is in Paradise celebrating with his mother Delores Robinson, aunt Mary Louise Niter (George), and Grandmother Sue Kimbro.
The day before his passing, Mr. Thornhill, Sr., accepted Islam in his heart and took his Shahada. His sins and transgressions were forgiven and he was granted entry into the external paradise of Heaven. He has attended Uqbah Mosque Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.
Lovingly referred to as Slim and The Browns #1 Fan, he enjoyed celebrating The Cleveland Browns, the cooking channel, golfing, eating sweets, and watching Cameron in his element. Slim was a kind man of meaningful words, impeccable integrity, and work ethic. Mr. Thornhill was undeniably a beacon in the community. He cared, provided, and thoroughly loved his family. Watching everyone succeed in all arenas of life brought him much joy and he was always eager to share the accomplishments of loved ones.
Mr. Thornhill worked at General Motors for 38 years as dedicated and committed crane worker ensuring mobility for generations to come. Slim was certainly a renaissance man and has set a high bar for many of us to admire. He has left an immeasurable mark in all of our lives and his legacy will continue in all of our hearts.
