Roger Lee Hamilton was born on June 4, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to William James Hamilton and Emma Hamilton. He grew up in Cleveland and graduated from Thomas Edison School. Roger dedicated his life to military service in the United States Army.
Roger later met and married Diane Hamilton, with whom he had two children: a daughter, Yolanda Hamilton, and a son, Roger Hamilton Jr. After many years of marriage, Roger and Diane divorced. He then married Dianna Hamilton, and together they had two sons, Bernard Hamilton and Russell Hamilton. After several years, Roger and Dianna divorced, and he later married Verna Hamilton.
After his military service, Roger worked for the United States Postal Service and retired from his postal career. During his time in the Army, he was awarded several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award) for his heroic actions in saving his crewmates’ lives.
Roger Lee Hamilton passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at the age of 82. He was reunited in Heaven with his siblings: Anna Lee Hamilton, Lester Hamilton, Vivian "Bea" Hamilton, William Hamilton, and Harold Hamilton.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Yolanda Hamilton; his three sons, Roger Hamilton Jr., Bernard Hamilton, and Russell Hamilton; one sister, Mary Jenkins; one brother, Jessie Hamilton; a host of grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 10 a.m. until time of Homegoing Service at 10:30 a.m., at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave. Cleveland, OH 44111. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
