Sharon Arroyo, age 74, daughter of the late Myrtle Mae Myers and Marty Jandis, greeted her heavenly Father peacefully on September 15, 2021. Loving sister to Sheila Figaro (Kaczmarczyk), brother, Marty Jandis Jr., sister, Mary Bernadette Jandis-Kotapish (Kurt) all of whom preceded her in death and Joseph Jandis. She is survived by her children, Jose M. Gonzalez, Jr., Felicia Soto-Martir (Eliot), Miguel A. Lopez, Rafael Arroyo, Jr., and grandchildren; Mariah, Talia, Krystal, Miguel, Jonathan, Alexia, Mikey, Cierra, Elijah, and Abigail. Sharon was family first and enjoyed attending family gatherings. Her many nieces and nephews, Joseph Figaro (Lynn), Anna Anders (Carrie), Jackie Roman (Jim), Sheila Figaro (Troy), Mark Figaro (Kim), as well as her many cousins, appreciated her honesty and ability to make everyone feel loved and heard.
Sharon was an avid reader and no matter where she was if she was sitting still, a book was in her hand. She was a passionate advocate for education. After obtaining her certification to be a Licensed Practical Nurse, she went on to attend Cuyahoga Community College to complete her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1987 while her children were still in school. She lived to serve and served to live. Throughout her life, Sharon worked for organizations that she felt supported the people and the Near Westside community she cared so deeply about. Among them were; Franklin Plaza Nursing Home, Clark-Fulton Merrick House, Parma Care Center, May Dugan Center, Moms First, Welcome House, Inc., and Our Lady of the Wayside.
Our mother lived a lifetime of giving no matter where she was and who she was around. In lieu of flowers, we ask that all donations be directed to the Sharon Arroyo Scholarship for Nursing & Social Services established in 2005 with the support of Esperanza, Inc.
Established by her family; Jose(Esperanza, ’87), Felicia(Esperanza, ’89), Miguel, and Rafael this scholarship will ensure the legacy of her service and dedication to the Latino community of Greater Cleveland for many years to come.
