Sue A. Neuman passed away on May 28, 2021 at the age of 74 at Parma Hospital following a long illness.
Sue is survived by her beloved nieces and nephew, Lindsay Hadel (Matt) of Thurmont, Maryland, Jennifer Piorkowski (Jay) of Strongsville, Christin Swingle of Willowick, Christopher Wallace (Meghan) of Bedford, and Nicole Treu (Karsten) or Rosamond, California; great-nieces and nephews Olivia, Christopher, Tyler, Carmella, Aidan, Caleb, Daphne, and Xavier; and sister Barbara Winder. She is predeceased by her brother David G. Neuman and her parents Fred A. Neuman and Phyllis E. D. Chittenden.
Sue was a proud graduate of Collinwood High School class of 1965. Following high school, she worked in quality assurance at LFE and Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation where she was a foreman until 1991 when she chose to pursue her degree as a medical assistant, earning a perfect GPA in a rigorous, accelerated program. Following graduation, she worked at St. Luke's Medical Center and later at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, from which she retired in 2016. At Rainbow, she was an EEG technician working in the pediatric sleep medicine lab.
Sue was the venerable matriarch of our family. She was a second-mother to us all; a true grand-aunt to our children. She was a kind, loving, compassionate woman who cared deeply for her family and for those in need of a little extra kindness. Each payday, while working at UH, she would go down to the cafeteria and anonymously pay for the lunches of families who looked overwhelmed.
Along with her altruism and compassion, those who knew and loved Sue, knew her for her quirks and her passions including a lifelong love of genealogical research and her obsession with the British royal family. She loved all things frilly and “frou-frou” and loved surrounding herself with candles, lace, and flowers.
Sue was a rare gem, “kooky” and beautiful. The world is certainly at a disadvantage with her gone.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. for a Memorial Service at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave, Cleveland, OH 44111.
