Trevor Ian Rothchild

Our family and the world has lost a beautiful, gentle soul.  Our beloved, Trevor Ian Rothchild, age 18, passed away Saturday, September 14^th, 2019, in a vehicle accident in rural Susanville, California. Trevor was born March 7, 2001, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a resident of Broadview Heights, Ohio.  He attended school in the Brecksville Broadview Heights School District, graduating from Brecksville Broadview Heights High School in 2019.  He was accepted into the undergraduate Engineering Program at the University of Akron and began his college course work in August.  He is survived by his mother, Darlene L. Rothchild, (nee: Wheatley) of Broadview Heights; his father David S. Rothchild of Elyria, Ohio; his paternal grandparents Linda D. Rothchild of Fairview Park, Ohio, and John M. Rothchild and Jeanne M. Rothchild, of Miami, Florida; his Aunt Deborah Walendzik (nee: Wheatley) of Cleveland, Ohio; his Great Aunts, Carol S. Brim of Amherst, Ohio, Joyce Rothchild of Raleigh, NC, and Ruth Rothchild of Red Wing Minnesota; and a large extended family of bereaved aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Violet Wheatley (nee: Dub) and Wilton Wheatley, and his Aunt Sherry Gearing (nee: Wheatley); and great uncle Irwin Rothchild.

From an early age, Trevor enjoyed spending time at science museums, aquariums and zoos.  And, like his Dad and Grandpa John, he was a model train enthusiast, and enjoyed all trains in general.

As a seasoned traveler, Trevor had opportunities to go sailing in Biscayne National Park, exploring in Everglades National Park, Mammoth Cave National Park, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, Natural Tunnel State Park, and the Kennedy Space Center. 

When Trevor was 8 years old, he went with his grandpa John and grandma Jeanne to St. John, USVI. They slept in a tent, hiked around the island, played in the sand and snorkeled in the bays.

In August of 2010, he spent a week on a the Research Vessel Coral Reef II, with his grandfather John Rothchild who was the ship’s Captain, along with other junior high school students doing marine science studies in the waters of Bimini, Bahamas.

Trevor enjoyed white water rafting on the Nolichucky River in 2013, and in 2014 on the ChattoogaRiver.

In 2015, a cross country train ride beginning in Chicago found Trevor, his Dad and Grandpa John in Seattle, where they visited the Space Needle, Boeing airplane plant, hiked in the rain forest and explored the Washington shoreline.

One of Trevor’s favorite vacation locations was Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan.  His Dad would drive the jeep across the hills and create a ton of excitement for both Trevor and Grandma Lin.

In recent years Trevor enjoyed wood working with his Dad.  Some of their first projects included beautiful wooden bowls they tuned on a lathe given to them by their late uncle and great uncle Irwin Rothchild. Trevor also continued his love of aquariums by maintaining three exotic fresh water fish aquariums in his home. He was well read on the subject of maintaining those aquariums and followed those instructions meticulously.

Trevor and his Dad were founding members of the Crooked River N-Gineers, N scale Model Train Club. They traveled to various locations in and around Ohio, setting up the model train layouts with dear friends and fellow founding train club members Randy Wolfe, and brothers Chuck and Cory Francis.

Family and Friends are welcome on Friday, September 27, 2019, from 6 to 8pm at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors, 13115 Lorain Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, 44111. A Mass of Christian Burial for Trevor will be held at the Catholic Church of the Assumption, 9183 Broadview Road, Broadview Heights, Ohio, at 11am, Saturday, September 28, 2019 (please meet at the church).  Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 4720 East 71^stStreet, Cleveland, Ohio, 44125.
